Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms

The urinary tract filters and removes liquid waste from the body. Sometimes bacteria that live near the rectum manage to enter the body through the urethra infecting the bladder and other parts of the urinary tract system. Women are most susceptible to urinary track Infections (UTI) and around 50% of them will experience UTI at least once during their lifetime.
Luckily, unitary tract infections can be treated easily by antibiotics and symptoms disappear quickly enough. But UTI can be very frustrating for some women who suffer from it more frequently than other women.

Causes of Urinary Tract Infections

Sexual contact is one of the common causes of unitary tract infections. During intercourse the urethra is sometimes massaged into the vaginal area which allows the bacteria to travel into the unitary tract. Holding urine in the body for long periods is another cause of UTI. The bladder is stretch too long which weakens its muscles. With weakened muscles not all of the urine is expelled from the bladder and the leftover urine can cause infection. Among women UTI risk is further increased by pregnancy, diabetes and menopause.

Urinary tract infection symptoms are easily recognized. They include:

• The urge to urinate is very strong
• Release of urine is accompanied by burning or sharp sensation in the urethra.
• Blood in the urine
• Urine released is only a trickle
• The urge to urinate again is strong after first release
• Soreness in the back, sides, and lower abdomen.

When the bacteria spread into the urethras and kidneys the urinary tract infection symptoms may include:

• Back pains
• Fever
• Chills
• Nausea
• Vomiting

In advance stage, urinary tract infections are harder to treat. A correct diagnosis is crucial as they can also be caused by other problems such as infections of the vulva or vagina. A physician is necessary to ensure that the main source of the problem is accurately identified and appropriate remedies are applied.
