Stomach ulcer symptoms

Beware who you kiss! The person may be infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria and you may get stomach ulcer. A stomach ulcer that was once thought to be caused by stress is actually caused by these bacteria that can be passed by an infected person to another through kissing and by eating contaminated food.

The H. pylori bacteria however, are not enough to give you ulcer symptoms. These bacteria does damage by slowly eating the protective lining of the stomach. But when a person carrying these bacteria smokes, drinks alcoholic beverages, eats spicy food and ingests some prescription medication, the deterioration of the duodenum is accelerated.

While duodenal ulcers are considered benign, other stomach ulcers can develop into cancer if left untreated. It is therefore vital to know the following ulcer symptoms as early intervention will avoid the risks of complications like perforated and bleeding ulcers.

• Burning pain in the abdominal level that usually gets worse two or three hours after eating
• Sourness when the stomach is empty; and also after a meal
• Nausea
• Vomiting (severe cases of ulcer would manifest blood in the vomit)
• Blood in feces (black blood in the stool is a manifestation of bleeding ulcer)
• Weakness and tiredness
• Loss of appetite
• Severe indigestion
• Anemia and weight loss that would result from bleeding

It is important for everyone to know the facts about ulcer. Learning about the ulcer symptoms will enable the person to get medical assistance at once.

Treating ulcers would be easier if the condition is at the early stage. Also, the complications that can develop will be avoided.
