Cancer is one of the most serious conditions threatening the life of millions all over the globe. An increasing number of people are inflicted with this kind of disease. According to a survey, ovarian cancer ranks as fourth in the leading cause of cancer-related death in women.

Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumor, of any histology, on or within an ovary. For a broad definition of ovarian cancer, it includes all ovarian tumors, malignant and benign. Until now, the cause of this kind of cancer is still unknown. Furthermore, ovarian cancer can afflict women from the ages of 55 to 74 years old. About one fourth of deaths caused by ovarian cancer were of women from the ages of 35 to 54 years old.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 20,000 women will have ovarian cancer every year. About 15,000 of these cases may result in death. The possibility of a woman surviving from this form of cancer is great if the disease is detected at an early stage.
