Infectious mononucleosis is a viral infection, and because viruses are usually airborne, there is a big chance that many people could get infected with this condition. Mono could be transferred through air, physical contact, and by using the things that an infected person used especially cups, drinking straws, and eating utensils.
Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, a strain that belongs to the herpes virus family. It is mainly transferred through the saliva which is why kissing is the most common medium of transfer. This is also the reason why teens and young adults are the frequent target.
