Herpes symptoms Herpes is classified as a sexually transmitted disease. While the symptoms of herpes can be alleviated using various medications, herpes itself cannot be completely cured. Once you have acquired herpes, it will stay in your body permanently. Herpes is a condition that often causes a lot of pain and discomfort. However, as time goes on the pain usually lessens. It is important to note that that first outbreak of herpes will carry the most severe and most painful symptoms. After this outbreak, the symptoms of herpes will be less harsh. For the most part, the symptoms include sores located on the penis or vagina and on the surrounding areas. On the first outbreak, the person will see how the sores progress. Once you contract herpes, the symptoms will start appearing within a week. This is what will happen: • Initially, the sores will come out as rashes or as tiny bumps. • Then, the bumps will develop into blisters. • After a few days, the blisters will open up. This is especially uncomfortable since the open sores will rub against the fabric of your underpants. • After a period of 10-20 days, the sores should subside and dry up. • Scabs will later appear. • Along with the sores, people may notice some swelling in the lymph nodes in the groin area. • Muscle pain, fever and unusual discharges may also be experienced. The symptoms of herpes that appear in later outbreaks will be much less painful. More specifically, later outbreaks will heal much faster, with the sores subsiding within 7-10 days. Recurrent outbreaks also have warning signs. Before you experience the actual symptoms, you may feel tingling in your genital region. This can signal that you need to take your medication in order to manage the outbreak that is coming as usual, sores and blisters will appear. While these sores will disappear faster, they may still give the person some discomfort.
