Fibromyalgia symptoms

Fibromyalgia is a condition common to women which is neither progressive nor life threatening. It is a recurring condition typified by fatigue, extensive pains in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is also known as fibrositis, psychogenic rheumatism or myalgias. Several factors causes this condition that includes sleep disturbances, injury, infection, changes in muscle metabolism, abnormalities in the sympathetic nervous system, psychological stress and hormonal changes.

Common indications of fibromyalgia vary on several circumstances like the weather condition, stress or pressure, physical movements and period in a day.

Here are the most common of them:

• Widespread Pain. Generally characterized by pain in certain body areas when applied with pressure. This may continue for months and is complemented with stiffness. Usually chronic muscle pains, muscle spasms, and leg cramps also happen.
• Fatigue and Sleeping Trouble. They are sleep disorders wherein people have the tendency to miss the restorative stage of sleep due to frequent disruption of sleep patterns. This also refers to symptoms like insomnia and moderate or severe fatigue and decreased energy.
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. IBS includes irregular bowel movements, abdominal pains and bloating.
• Headaches and aching of the face. This is due to the sensitivity of neck and shoulder joints often associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
• Heightened Sensitivity. There is an increased in sensitivity to smell, sounds, touch and bright lights.
• Additional common indications and signs are depression, paresthesia (numb and itchy sensations), trouble in concentrating, mood swings, chest pain, dehydrated eyes, mouth and skin, dizziness and anxiety, painful menstruation, swelling of hands and feet, and reduced tolerance for exercise.
If you are experiencing these symptoms, specifically widespread pains and fatigue for several months, it’s better to consult your doctor to diagnose fibromyalgia or other diseases which might have the same symptoms.
