Pernicious Anemia Symptoms Pernicious anemia is a form of anemia caused by a deficiency in Vitamin B12 Vitamin B12 is responsible in the maintenance of the nervous system, and plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells. Less Vitamin B12 means low levels of RBC’s. Some symptoms of pernicious anemia include a loss of sensation in the hands and feet. This is also characterized by a bright red and smooth tongue. Jaundice, or yellowness of the skin, may be an indicator of pernicious anemia, as well as constant fevers and dizziness upon immediate standing. In relation to the nervous system, people with this kind of condition sometimes cannot walk steadily and their sense of equilibrium is affected. There are also some cases of memory loss and depression. |
