| Acid reflux in infants Even infants are not exempted from experiencing acid reflux. In fact, they are the most common age group that encounters it. Symptoms of acid reflux in babies can usually be observed through constant burping, spitting, and vomiting. GER could also happen when infants cough, cry, and experience strain. However, it is sometimes hard to know if babies have GER because most of them are generally happy and healthy. Coughing irritably, poor feeding, blood in their feces, and vomiting are the usual mild symptoms. However, most of the infants stop spitting and vomiting when they reach their 12th to 18th month of life. Although generally, the symptoms of reflux esophagitis in infants are light, there are some that should be given much attention. Some of these symptoms include refusal to eat or drink milk, slow growth due to feeding problems, breathing problems after vomiting, and blood loss due to acid burning in the infant's esophagus. It is best to go to the pediatrician or your child's health care provider frequently to monitor the over all health of your child. |
